Gorilla trekking

If you are planning for an Ultimate Uganda safari, some parks are “a must visit” due to their unique attractions in the world. A fully detailed and satisfying Uganda Safari is between 10 to 16 days. This will take you through the central, Northwest, West and South of Uganda.

Activities or attractions to indulge in are as follows

Gorilla trekking. A Uganda Safari without trekking Gorillas is like a safari out of Uganda! Mountain Gorillas are only found in 3 countries in the World which is Uganda, Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo. While in Uganda, you must therefore utilize the opportunity since you never know whether you will ever come back. Not more than 1200 Gorillas live today in the World.

While in Uganda, Gorillas can be trekked in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park.

Uganda has 50% of the world’s Mountain Gorillas. Most of them inhabit in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and 1 family in Mgahinga National Park.

Chimpanzee tracking. While on a UgandaSafari, another highlight is tracking Chimpanzees. Chimpanzees share 98.8% of their DNA with humans. Their highest population in the world is in Uganda and Congo. However, the highest concentration of habituated Chimpanzees is in Uganda in Kibale National Park.

Other places to track Chimpanzees while on a Uganda Safari are Budongo Forest Reserve, Kyambura Gorge, Kalinzu Forest and Bugoma Forest among others.

These are tracked from their natural habitat while on a forest guided walk.

Tree climbing Lions. Lions can be sighted anywhere in Africa but the one’s in Queen Elizabeth National Park and Murchison Falls National Park are unique in a way that they climb trees! It is a behavior that they adopted due to high grass. In most cases they are encountered while laying on tree branches.

Boat safari at Kazinga Channel. Your Uganda Safari must include a boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park. During the boat safari, Hippos, Elephants, Buffaloes, Crocodiles, Nile Monitor Lizards and a variety of colorful bird species are sighted up close.

Murchison Falls. The falls are the most powerful in the world! The Nile River passes through a narrow gorge of 7 meters wide, plunging 43 meters beneath, leaving a rainbow trademark as it continues its journey to the Mediterranean Sea.

Night Safari and Nature Walk in Lake Mburo National Park. During a night Safari in Lake Mburo National Park, there are higher chances of encountering the elusive Leopards than anywhere else in Uganda. This is because there are no lions in the park. Other nocturnal animals to encounter are the Janet cats, Hyenas, Bushbabies and Jackals. Zebras, Hippos, Buffaloes, Giraffes and others can also be encountered.

A nature guided walk in Lake Mburo National Park bonds you deeply with nature than any other activity. This is because you walk in the wilderness under the guidance of an armed ranger while encountering wildlife. You get to experience nature in details by sights and sounds and up-close. Animals to encounter are Giraffes, Buffaloes, Elands, Topis, Impalas, Zebras, Hippos and a variety of color bird species.

Golden Monkey tracking. Golden Monkeys can only be tracked in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo. They inhabit in the Virunga volcanoes. In Uganda, it is at Mgahinga National Park that they can be tracked. While on a Uganda Safari, it is therefore advisable that you tick the activity off the list if you are not to return anytime soon.

Source of River Nile. The longest river on earth has her source in Uganda before traversing over 6500 kilometers to the Mediterranean Sea. On a Uganda Safari, take a day to visit the source in Jinja. While on a boat, you practically see the water bubbling from beneath to join Lake Victoria water to create a Victoria Nile.

Other activities to do on the Nile are Bungee Jumping, Ziplining and White-water rafting.

Shoebill experience. A shoebill stork is a pre historic bird that has never undergone evolution. Its dinosaur-like appearance and interesting characters make it a sought-after bird for bird lovers. It is a vulnerable species at high risk of extinction. Uganda is one of the few countries with high chances of encountering it. Therefore, when on a Uganda Safari, you may include it on the list of attractions to see.

Equator Experience. Uganda is lucky to be among the 13 countries in the World with an Equator crossing through it. While on a Uganda Safari, you can stopover at either Kayabwe a long Kampala Masaka Road or Kikorongo equator monument in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Witness the Coriolis force that acts on objects by rotating clockwise or anticlockwise depending on the Hemisphere you are standing on.

Wildlife Safaris. Encounter the tree climbing lions in Ishasha or Murchison Falls National Park during game safaris. Herds of elephants, Giraffes, Elands, Topis, Hyenas, Buffaloes, African rock pythons, Leopards, Hippos, Ostriches and much more wildlife can be seen on a Uganda Safari.

If you are a bird lover, Uganda inhabits 10% of the world’s bird species amounting to averagely 1078 species.

Uganda has 10 National Parks and 12 Wildlife Reserves. All these provide a unique experience when in Uganda!

Mountaineering. Take on the third highest mountain in Africa while on a Uganda Safari! Mount Rwenzori stands an elevation of 5109 meters above Sea level. It is a chain of various blocks, the highest being Margherita peak on Mount Stanley. Other peaks are Mount Speke at 4890 meters, Mount Baker at 4843 meters, Mount Emin at 4798 meters, Mount Gessi at 4715 meters and Mount Luigi di Savoia at 4627 meters.

What makes it unique is that it is a snowcapped mountain even when the equator crosses through it!

It is the most challenging to hike on the African continent compared to Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.

It takes 7 to 9 days to Hike depending on your pace.
